Welcome Back

I heard through the grapevine that I am missed by my loyal subscribers. Many of you may be wondering where I have been…… the answer is, EVERYWHERE! This summer has been filled of nothing but blessings and it has truly been one for the books. Let me give you a short recap:

  • A new car
  • Five summer classes
  • An internship at The Sanders Firm in Mineola, New York
  • An internship with Wells Fargo in Tallahassee, Florida
  • Employed by Amazon as the Campus Ambassador of Florida A&M University
  • Receptionist of the Career and Professional Development Center
  • Collaborated with Everything HBCUs

Since the start of college, I have struggled with finding who I am and what my purpose is. I am so glad to see things finally falling into place. From now on, I am coming for everything I want. And so are you. But where should you start?

I am blessed to attend the #1 public HBCU in the Nation, Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. I can feel the Rattler Spirit from a mile away! Without FAMU, I would not be the woman I am today. Without FAMU, I wouldn’t be here…. on this blog. Here are some tips I have learned while on ‘The Hill:’

  1. Networking- The most important thing my mother taught me is: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. It is imperative that you treat everyone with respect, you never know who you may cross paths with in the future.
  2. Use your resources- I think the biggest problem with this generation is that people do not like to do the footwork. Some people sit back and expect good opportunities to just fall in their lap. If you want something, you have to go out and get it. One of the most slept on resources on campus is the Career and Professional Development Center. I have gained most of my opportunities and professional skills through this department.
  3. Apply- If you see an opportunity with requirements that you do not meet, still apply! You never know what the employer is actually looking for. You might have a low GPA, but have an awesome personality. Or you may not have the best soft skills, but you are awesome when it comes to logistics. You never know! You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.
  4. Ask for help- I was always the type of girl who tried to figure everything out on my own. THAT DOES NOT WORK! You cannot make it to the top without help. Closed mouths do not get fed…. you said you wanted to eat, right?
  5. Ask me for help- I only help people who help themselves. But, I think plenty of people can attest that I am always trying to put people onto opportunities that cater to their career path. On the way to the top, it is imperative to reach your arm back to pull someone up.

What to Expect

  • Football season is upon us! I have teamed up with Everything HBCUs to present to you some super cute FAMU Shirts to wear this season. Shoutout to them boys for that amazing win Saturday night against Fort Valley State, 41-7. Let’s keep that same energy all year!
